CBI to start probe against license grants post 2001

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is soon going to start probing telecom license grants after 2001, reports CNBC-TV18. The probe will start after CBI files chargesheet on 2008 licenses.

The CBI would meet the deadline set by the Supreme Court and file the first chargesheet on March 31. The agency will file a status report covering its contents on 29 March. A new officer AC Awasthi may take over as 2G probe officer.

The Supreme Court is monitoring CBI investigation into the arbitrary allocation of 2G spectrum to chosen companies in 2008, which according to the Comptroller & Auditor General may have caused a loss of up to Rs 176,000 crore to the exchequer.
