snow bikes recall consumer newsTech 4 Kids is recalling Outer Edge Snow Bikes in the U.S. and Canada because their front skis can crack or break, launching riders off the bikes.

The Canadian company has three reports of users being hurt in sudden stops caused by the bikes' broken front skis, reports the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. Injuries included a dislocated shoulder and a cut deep enough to need stitches.

In the U.S., about 2,100 bikes were sold at Costco, Amazon.com, Walmart.com, and sporting goods stores and other retailers nationwide, from September 2010 through January 2011. They were priced at about $150 each. In Canada, about 22,000 bikes were sold at stores including Walmart, Sears and Toys R Us.

Affected by the recall are Outer Edge's Snow MX-Ski-Doo and the Snow MX-X Games snow bikes. The Snow MX-Ski-Doo bike is yellow and black; the Snow MX-X Games model is blue and black. Both were made in China for Tech 4 Kids.

Consumers should stop using the bikes and return them for a refund. Call Tech 4 Kids at (866) 287-4761.

This is the third recall of winter sports equipment this season. Just last month, the venerable ski brands of Marker and Kastle recalled certain model numbers of this year's ski bindings. Arctic Cat also recalled thousands of snowmobiles.
