Natural Gas Plant Explosions Cause Major Fire in Texas

Multiple explosions at a Houston-area natural-gas plant operated by Enterprise Products Partners (EPD) caused a fire that can be seen from dozens of miles away, local television station KHOU-TV reported.

The explosions took place at about 12:25 p.m. local time, KHOU said. The plant is in Mont Belvieu, about 35 miles east of Houston. No injury reports have been released. Chambers County officials haven't called for evacuations, though State Highway 146 near the plant was shut down, KHOU reported.

Houston-based Enterprise Products owns almost 50,000 miles of natural-gas pipelines and has 27 billion cubic feet of natural gas storage facilities. The company hasn't put out a statement about the accident.

Enterprise Products shares were down 2.2% to $42.85 at about 3:45 p.m. EST in New York Stock Exchange trading on Tuesday.
